Man dies after being struck by vehicle on Cass Street in Joliet

JOLIET, IL – Police said a man was found dead following a pedestrian collision in Joliet on Wednesday morning.

In a news release, the Joliet Police Department reported that the victim left an apartment in the 600 block of Jerome Avenue shortly after 6:45 a.m. and walked toward Cass Street, where he was struck by a vehicle..

Detectives learned that the man declined medical assistance and that the driver of the vehicle took him back to the apartment. He later left the apartment again and walked to a supermarket before returning to the Jerome Avenue address.

At 6:15 p.m., police responded to the apartment for a welfare check after an unresponsive tenant was located by his roommate. Officers arrived to find the 40-year-old victim of the crash with a significant injury to his head, and he was pronounced dead.

Detectives identified and located the vehicle believed to have been involved, as well as the woman who was driving.

The driver cooperated with detectives, and the vehicle was towed as part of the investigation. So far there have been no arrests.

Joliet police are continuing to investigate the incident.
