8 hospitalized following multi-vehicle crash with semi-truck in Itasca 

ITASCA, IL – Eight people were taken to the hospital following a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck in Itasca on Monday. 

Illinois State Police told ABC7Chicago that 11 vehicles collided around 11:15 a.m. on Interstate 290 West. Out of those 11 vehicles, a semi-truck hauling bricks overturned, causing the bricks to spill onto the road. 

EMS crews rushed eight people to the emergency room for treatment of unspecified injuries. 

Authorities closed three westbound lanes and four eastbound lanes, as well as the eastbound ramp from Route 360 to Interstate 290, for the on-scene clean-up process and overall investigation for several hours before reopening the area at 4 p.m. 

Officials have not specified the severity of injuries sustained or confirmed the cause of the crash.
